Wash beans in cold water.  Put in pan with water and let it come to a boil for 5 mins.  Turn off heat and leave set for 30 minutes covered.  Then turn on heat and let simmer for 1 1/2 hour.  Then put in sauce cooked until beans are done. 

If you have a ham bone do not do the following:

Get 4 cloves of garlic cut into small pieces and fry in a pan with 1/4 cup oil until light colored.  Then put in one good cup and kind of tomato sauce you prefer.  Add small chopped carrots, onions (lots), celery (lots), cook for 10 minutes.  Add pepper, salt, and parsley flakes. 

When beans have cooked for 1 1/2 hours, throw in sauce w/ all the veggies. 

If you have a ham bone just put veggies, ham bone,  plain sauce, with pepper, parsley, garlic powder, salt, with no oil.  The ham serves as the fat.
